LSVT BIG® is a research-based approach to exercise based on Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD) principles designed for people with Parkinson’s Disease. It is an intensive, large-amplitude program for movement and re-education of the sensorimotor system that affects how people move and function in their environments. The primary focus of the program is to normalize movement through large-amplitude movement patterns to result in significant changes in a person’s life.
LSVT BIG® is a very specific and standardized exercise program. In-clinic therapy is four consecutive days a week for four weeks; one hour each day where the exercises are performed at 7-9/10 on a work intensity scale. Specific exercises are set up to be done daily at home as well as specific carry-over exercises that may build on for improved function. The idea is that these exercises become life-long habits that make a positive impact on the person’s quality of life.
Because LSVT BIG® treatment is customized to each person’s specific needs and goals, it can help regardless of the stage or severity of your condition.
I had therapy (elsewhere) and I never really thought it helped. At Hulst Jepsen, I had a much better experience. The people that work there are warm and caring. They kept track of my progress and pushed me to get better. I can do so much more without pain! Thank you all!
