Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy combines the benefits of buoyancy and resistance to assist movement, progress strength, gait, and balance.

What to Expect

An initial evaluation by one of our Physical Therapists may be on land or scheduled right at the pool to establish your baseline. This can be performed at anyone of our locations most convenient for you. Following your evaluation you will be scheduled at one of our 4 pool locations: David D. Hunting YMCA downtown, located at 475 lake Michigan Dr. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504; the Visser YMCA located at 3540 Fairlanes Ave SW, Grandville, MI 49418, the new Mary Free Bed YMCA at  5500 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, or our Wyoming office at 1535 44TH St SW, Wyoming, MI 49509. The therapist will be in the pool to instruct and assist you with an individualized exercise program. You are not expected to swim—walking and standing/sitting exercises are done without getting your hair too wet!

You are all AMAZING!!! Amber and Jolene are the best! When Abbie became injured 1 1/2 years ago in dance- something she loved to do, she went through 3 doctors, another physical therapists, many painful procedures and finally found a Dr. Hedlund who sent us to Hulst Jepsen where she was blessed with 2 amazing therapist and their staff! Abbie thought she may never dance again! She had many ups and downs in her therapy but no one ever gave up on her. They always listened to her and helped her do her best! Now she has finished her therapy, is starting dance again in a few weeks, is auditioning for the Nutcracker and her dance team at school!!!
