What doctor should I see?

As a physical therapist, I get this question about once a week, “So, what doctor should I see for this condition?” It’s a really good question. Just like a lawyer may specialize in real estate, divorce or tax law, many physicians have sub-specialties too. Your surgeon may have done a great job giving you a hip replacement, but he or she may not be the best provider for knee pain or for spinal arthritis.

One of my favorite things about my job is that I get to see all kinds of patients. In the course of a day I will see patients for low back pain, ankle sprains, meniscus repairs, rotator cuff tendinitis, myofascial pain, knee stiffness, back fusions, tennis elbow, balance challenges and headaches. If it relates to the musculoskeletal system, we treat it. We at Hulst Jepsen Physical Therapy receive referrals from a variety of physicians including orthopedic surgeons, pain management specialists, physical medicine and rehab, neurosurgeons, internists, general practitioners, OBGYNs etc. On a daily basis we see who provides patients with the exceptional care and provides them with great surgical outcomes.

Hulst Jepsen Physical Therapy has been in West Michigan for 20 years. We know the physicians in the area, and we have close relationships with many of them. If you have a musculoskeletal issue going on and you feel you may need a visit with a specialist, we may be able to help.

At any one of our 15 offices, we can perform a simple screening assessment to let you know what we think is going on. If needed, we can also give you our thoughts about who may be a good physician for you to see. Of course, we also encourage you to talk to your primary care physician because they should also be a trusted source for directing your care as well.

In West Michigan, we have access to exceptional medical resources, but the medical world can be challenging to navigate at times. Because it matters to us that you receive the best care possible, we are here to help guide you toward well trusted options. Let us know if we can help, and call 616.827.3010 to schedule your free 15 minute screening!
